Christine Haynes Emery Dress

This Emery dress was my first experiment with a Christine Haynes pattern and I found the instructions really easy to follow. It was also my first time lining a garment bodice, so I also learnt some new skills along the way. I’m still at the stage of dressmaking where I am getting a little bit better with each garment I sew which is really rewarding and exciting. It helps to have R on hand too to help me when I get a little bit stuck!

I sewed up this Emery dress in this classic Liberty tana lawn print which I always find a little bit too lightweight for a full skirt. If I was going to make another Emery I’d definitely be persuaded to line it or sew it up in a slightly heavier fabric. I also definitely need to work on my invisible zip skills… is this the most visible zip you’ve ever seen?

The pattern has a couple of variations and I opted for the little cap sleeves and bow at the waistline. I do love the peter pan collar though and I’m tempted to sew up another just to try it out.

I’ve been trying to work my way through the mountains of fabric that I’ve been hoarding for a while now so you should be seeing more and more little dressmaking projects from me on here.

Emery Dress

Has anyone else made an Emery dress before? I was sad to miss Christine at the Ray Stitch event she held a few weeks back, but the photos of all the Emerys (Emeries?!) there looked great. Any suggestions for a pattern to try out next? I treated myself to a metre of Liberty silk in their sale so looking for a simple, little top pattern.
